Carol Shelton is widely cited as the most awarded winemaker in the United States, having won countless medals for her wines and having been honored as Winemaker of the Year numerous times.  After years of working with some of the industry's top winemakers (Robert Mondavi and Andre Tchelistcheff) and wineries, in year 2000, she and her husband Mitch Mackenzie, a former software engineer, launched their own brand -- Carol Shelton Wines, focusing primarily on Zinfandels. 

This old-vine Zin (77%) also contains elements of Carignane (9%), Primitivo (8%), Syrah (2%), Alicante Bouchet (2%), Barbera (1%) and Petite Sirah (1%) is dangerously good with distinct aromas and flavors of black cherry, plum, briary raspberry and cracked pepper with lovely hints of vanilla-oak and a finish that is long and lush.  90 points Wine Spectator.  15% ABV MON
