Vina Eguia

2010 Crianza Tempranillo

Rioja Spain

The Vina Eguia winery and vineyards were established in 1973 in Elciego,  a historic village in the Rioja Alavesa that borders the Spanish "Basque" region.  Th language in this region often includes Basque words such as "Eguia" that means "truth."  The brand is symbolized by an open hand over the label, which is in the shape of an open book, analogous to putting one';s hand on a bible to swear to the truth of what one is saying.

From vines with a medium age of 20 to 25 years, the grapes for this 100% Rioja Tempranillo were fermented for 15 days and macerated in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, then subjected to malolactic fermentation before going into American oak for 12 months.  The result is a wine, dark cherry in color, that exhibits a lovely bouquet of cherries, mature oak and hints of licorice while the palate is full, elegant and well balanced, leaving a very pleasant fresh sensation in the finish. This  is an ideal wine to pair with beef, cured meats and hard cheese, Spanish tapas and all kinds of appetizers.  91 points Wine Advocate.  13.5% ABV QUI
