2011 Grand Terroir Tautavel Red Blend

Languedoc-Roussillon France

Named European Winery of the Year in 2012 by Wine Enthusiast, proprietor and winemaker Gerard Bertrand, owns more than five estates in Southern France, including over 800 acres of estate vineyards in the lovely village of Tautavel, perched in a high valley that links the French wine regions of Roussillion and Corbieres, that is largely unknown to the outside world.  This very pure and well-structured "Grand Terroir" blend of Grenache (50%), Syrah (35%) and Carignan (15%) delivers a wonderful bouquet of ripe fruits (black currants, blueberries and spices) along with pleasing flavors of tobacco, wet leather and game with hints of licorice and burnt herbs that lead to a long, cocoa powder-infused finish with supple tannins.  Says Wine Enthusiast 91 points) of this vintage: This is an immediately attractive and approachable wine, with direct and intense aromas and flavors of black cherry, plum and boysenberry accented by notes of sweet smoke, mocha and pepper.  Firm yet approachable, this is well-balanced with structured tannins and ample acidity.  Drink from 2015-2018." 14% ABV TEG
