2013 Grenache

Sonoma Valley California

The fruit for this Grenache is sourced from the Mathis Vineyard (that is owned by  Ravenswood winemaker, Peter Mathis), a 7.5 acre plot situated in the hills above the town of Sonoma on a warm south-facing slope.  The soils are volcanic is origin with underlying rhyolitic rock.  The nearby San Francisco Bay, visible from the vineyard, provides a cooling influence and allows for extended hang time at harvest.  Mostly comprised of Grenache (86%), there are also small amounts of Petite Sirah (9%), Carignane (4%) and Alicante Bouchet (1%).  The result is a wine with soft aromas and flavors of French strawberry preserves and Rainier cherries with subtle hints of fresh thyme.  14.6% ABV DIR
