Bodegas Volver

2014 Tarima Monastrell

Alicante Spain

Bodegas Volver, a joint venture between importer Jorge Ordonez and Rafael Canizares, produces wines from huge holdings of 252 acres in La Mancha, 457 acres in Alicante and 125 acres in Jumilla.  The grapes for this value-priced Monastrell (also known as Mourvedre and Mataro) come from 25 to 35-year-old vines planted in chalky-soil vineyards at an elevation of 2100 feet in the south of Spain.  The result is a tasty wine that delivers aromas of ripe fruit, toasty oak, raspberries and mulberries followed by focused flavors of black plums and boysenberry with hints of cocoa and smoke, backed by light tannins and lively acidity.  Drink now through 2020.  87 points Wine Spectator.  14.5% ABV  HWG
