Castello di Volpaia

2014 Chianti Classico

Tuscany Italy

Castello di Volpaia overlooks the village of Radda in Chianti.  The town was built in the 11th century as a fortified village on the Florence/Sienna border.  Although only part of the original protective walls and two of its six towers are still standing today, the medieval layout and buildings within the village are still intact, making Volpaia one of the best preserved villages of its period.  Just as it has been for the last 900 years, the entire village is intimately involved in the production of wine and olive oil.  This Chianti Classico, made from organically-farmed Sangiovese grapes, delivers robust  aromas of red fruit, crushed cherry and truffle with hints of meat and balsamic herbs along with juicy flavors of small black forest berries that all lead to a lovely mouth-watering quality and harmonious acids that extend the flavor.  90 points Wine Spectator; 90 points Wine Enthusiast; 90 points International Wine Cellar.   13.5% ABV TEG
