2011 Fleurie "La Reserve" BeaujolaisBurgundy France
The history of Villa Ponciago reaches far back into the past, as far back as 949 AD when the owner of Chateau de Poncie made a gift of his vineyard to the Abbey of Cluny. Several decades later, the estate reverted to its Latin name, Villa Ponciago, located at Fleurie in the Beaujolais region. It was acquired in 2008 by the Henriot family from the Champagne region.
Vinified in stainless steel tanks in small batches, about a quarter of the juice was then matured in seasoned oak for just over six months while the remainder was matured in stainless steel tanks. Vivid ruby red in color, this well-priced Beaujolais is aromatically surprisingly complex, offering aromas and flavors of plum and blueberry along with hints of rose and toasted cedar and a good level of acidity, ideal when served with rabbit or pheasant. 12.5% ABV HWG
