Mas Carlot

2011 Les Enfants Terribles Red Blend

Costieres de Nimes France

Since 1988, Nathalie Blanc-Mares has made Mas Carlot, one of the most respected domaines of the Costieres de Nimes appellation.  She farms 75 hectares (about 190 acres) in the red clay and limestone soils of the Southern Rhone.  Rich in galets roules,, the rounded stones offer natural protection against temperature extremes.  The presence of the Mistral creates an excellent microclimate for the vines in which they may retain their acidity and be free of pests and mildew.

This blend of Mourvedre (60%) and Syrah (40%), aged in barrels for one year, delivers assertive aromas of dark berries, mocha and licorice with a smoky overtone along with lush black and blue fruit flavors with a hint of black pepper that adds kick.  This is a lush and supple wine, balanced by crisp acids on the finish.  90 points Wine Enthusiast.  TEG
