2013 Monte Rosso ZinfandelMoon Mountain California
There is no more stunningly beautiful vineyard in all the world than Monte Rosso, a 350-acre vineyard perched some 1000 feet above Sonoma Valley on the last high flank of the Mayacamas Mountain Range, one of the most historic and pedigreed vineyards in Northern California. Planted in 1886 in the bright-red, iron-rich soils, the vineyard went through many owners, beginning with Emmanuel Goldstein who planted the vines through Louis Martini to its present owners, the Gallo family.
This full-bodied, deep purple Zinfandel (with 5% Alicante Bouchet), aged in one-third new French oak, exhibits aromas and flavors of briary, wild strawberry, cherry and raspberry fruit intertwined with hints of tar, earth, pepper and charcuterie. This complex and stunningly beauty should continue to offer decadent pleasure for 5-7 years beyond vintage. Extremely limited availability. 94 points Antonio Galloni; 91-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. MON
