2013 Pinot Gris

Russian River Valley California

Beginning in 1981 as a major produce farm, the Balletto family now holds over 600 acres in the esteemed Russian River Valley, though they presently devote only 60 acres to making fine wines.  In July 2010, the Balletto Family was honored as the Sonoma County Farm Bureau Farm Family of the Year. Balletto makes wine from sustainably-farmed vineyards located throughout the cool southern third of the Russian River Valley, one of the few RRV wineries to be 100% estate grown and estate bottled.  Balletto specializes in vineyard-designated Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are consistently elegant, balanced and delicious.

Pinot Gris is a close cousin to Pinot Noir with only small mutations to make bronze-colored grapes as opposed to black (noir).   The grapes for this Pinot Gris were grown on a magnificent eight-acre vineyard planted exclusively to this varietal, about 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean.  Fermented both in neutral oak (70%) and stainless steel (30%), this fruity and savory wine opens with a mix of such bright and heady aromatics as lime, honeysuckle, ripe apple and fresh fig that lead to lovely viscosity and structure that is balanced with a streak of acidity and minerality.  Gold Medal 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. 13.8% ABV CWC
