2013 Shiraz

Barossa Valley Australia

The Barossa Valley was confronted with one of the earliest and smallest vintages of 2013, but the quality was truly outstanding.  Dry conditions, coupled with warm to hot weather and variable yield levels, forced growers to manage their blocks carefully, especially with regard to soil moisture and irrigation.  Despite low yields, the quality was strong across the board with red showing intense flavors, good color and firm tannins.  This Shiraz was aged for six months in stainless steel tanks with French oak interstaves before bottling.  The result is a wine, deep midnight black in color with a squid-ink hue, that delivers expressive and powerful aromas of dark and exotic berries that lead to flavors of dark and rich chocolates, tar, leather and spice.  This full-bodied wine would would pair well with slowly-cooked brisket, grilled lamb, grass-fed beef, hearty beef stew and, of course, steak.  Drink now through 2023.  92 points Wine Spectator.  15.5% ABV QUI
