2013 Tondre's Grapefield Pinot Noir

Santa Lucia Highlands California

This is a truly exceptional wine.  The 2016 San Francisco International Wine, this year judging 7,162 wines, bestowed the Best of Class and Red Sweepstakes awards on the Sonnet 2013 Pinot Noir.  This little gem comes from fruit grown n the Tondre's Grapefield in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands, an area that some consider to be the Core d'Or of California.  This beauty, aged for 17 months in oak barrels, displays aromas of earth and spice so typical of the Santa Lucia Highlands that are followed by rich flavors of black cherry, red Bing cherry fruit and oak spice.  The palate shows plush velvety tannins and spicy characters that mingle with the cherry fruit all the way to the finish. And, as an extra classy  touch, Shakespeare's Sonnet 130 appears on the bottle's back label.  With only 680 cases produced, this stunning Pinot Noir commands ordering while it lasts.         90 points Wine Enthusiast.  15.5% ABV MON
