2015 The Prisoner Red Blend

Napa Valley California

The explosive ascent of Orin Swift founder Dave Phinney has few parallels in American wine lore.  In 1997, he was a cellar rat at Robert Mondavi Vineyards, washing cellar floors, dragging hoses and performing other menial chores.  The following year, he launched Orin Swift Wines, making just 385 cases of a wine called "The Prisoner," inspired by the drinkable "mixed blacks" first made by the Italian immigrants who originally settled in Napa Valley.  In 2003, The Prisoner was launched and soon became the most recognized innovative and unique Napa Valley red wine blend, leading resurgence of blends by incorporating Zinfandel with the unlikely "mix" of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Charbono.    The result here is a blend with bold aromas of black cherry and plum with hints of oak and Madagascar vanilla that are followed by flavors of dark cocoa powder, anise and roasted sage that lead to a dense finish with luscious tannins. 15.2% ABV
