2015 Old-Vine Zinfandel

Sonoma Valley California

Most of the fruit for this old-vine Zinfandel is sourced from the historic Bedrock Vineyard, first planted in 1854 as a business venture between buddies William "Tecumseh" Sherman and Joseph "Fightin' Joe" Hooker, wiped out by phylloxera in the mid-1880s and replanted in 1888 by Senator George Hearst, father of publisher William Randelph Hearst.  Besides Zinfandel, this vineyard harbors an eclectic mix of such other black grapes as Abouriou, Alicante Bouchet, Aubun, Carignan, Grand Noir, Grenache, Le Noir, Merlot, Mission, Peloursin, Petite Sirah, Tempranillo, Teredalgo, Trousseau Gris and Trousseau Noir.  The result is a dense and brooding Zinfandel that delivers licorice and Asian spice aromas, mixed with blackberry accents and layers of huckleberry, dried sage and pepper.  Highly limited availability. 14.4% ABV MON
